Typical Client Needs

Working with clients in many different industries and sectors, we help them to achieve their objectives while minimising their exposure to risk. We find that our services are particularly attractive to safety critical industries where there is strong reliance on the people in the system in order to prevent serious incidents and accidents from occurring.

Example problems that clients come to us with include:

Organisational & Safety Culture

  • A safety culture assessment in the manufacturing industry, which was seen by the client as “...a successful analysis with results evaluated across all levels of the organisation as being highly reflective of culture and issues...” . Working together with the organisation, we designed and implemented a behaviour based safety and leadership development programme across more than 700 employees to address some of the culture issues identified. Following this programme, significant improvements were achieved, including;
    • MTIFR (medical treatment injury frequency rate) dropped from 200 to 120 in one year;
    • State Safety Award achieved based on the innovative program and program results;
    • 18-month post implementation review identified 90% positive workforce participation and the MTIFR dropped from 120 to 55. State Safety Award won for the second consecutive year;
    • A program re-energisation three years after the initial program was implemented resulted in a further drop in MTIFR from 55 to 29. National Safety Award won for the Behaviour Based Program.
  • For more information, refer to Clancy, J.M. (2006). Achieving and sustaining safe behaviour. Paper presented at the Safety in Action Conference, 16-18th May, Melbourne, Australia;
  • A human element diagnosis, including safety culture assessment and incident analysis for a shipping company in order to identify their organisational strengths and areas for improvement. For more information, refer to Human Focus Magazine, Lloyd’s Register, February 2007, Issue 1, p 9. A quote from the article from the Director of the shipping company: ”A deep understanding of the human element is vital: without it, you quickly reach a ceiling on safety, health and environmental performance… [the study] identified some factors that we had already begun to target ourselves, which gave us confidence that the survey process was valid, but more importantly, it identified a number of factors that we were not aware of. The organisational culture survey has provided a deep insight into our operations and, as a result, we have already begun amending our 2007 training programme”;
  • A study that examined the effect of security perceptions among transport workers on measures of work performance and morale. The project investigated how industries at high risk of security threats manage employee and property security through training, security systems and organisational support.
